Obama books clinch ‘best publisher’ for Canongate

Independent publisher Canongate picked up Publisher of the Year at this year’s Booksellers Industry Conference – somewhat helped by its savvy acquisition of Barack Obama’s series of books when he was still a junior Illinois senator. Having doubled their turnover in the space of a year, it seems that the company is forging ahead with managing director Jamie Byng at the helm.

According to the Guardian, Atlantic Books won Best Independent Publisher at the event, which also saw WHSmith pick up best bookselling company – beating rivals Waterstones and Borders. All winners will now be proud owners of a new Nibbie (a pen-shaped golden trophy).
