Stephen King rocking a vampire comic

vampirecomicOh I am really quite excited by the news that Stephen King and Scott Snyder are making this awesome looking vampire comic. Illustrated by Rafeal Albuquerque – whose art I have taken an instant shine to – American Vampire will be released by Vertigo and looks like a stellar collaboration.

Vampires are always awesome (unless featuring in overhyped and overvalued teen franchises – sorry Twilight series, you’re good at what you do) so I have high hopes for what looks like an original take on the mythology.

When I was very, very young I used mouldy old black sheets found in the garage to try and transform my bunk beds into a coffin. I’ve left a lot of that early Vampire infatuation (largely sparked by the hilarious The Reluctant Vampire novel) behind, but I’m not quite over it yet and comics like this are sure to just carry on feeding the addiction.

  1. Why am I not surprised you tried to turn your bed into a coffin?

Vampires are okay. I generally don’t like them because of the obsession with them that, yes, teen crap encourages. It makes me sick. I don’t like thinking of them as sexy seductive bla bla blas. I like Dracula. He was irresistible not because he was omg hott but because that was the vampire charm. And even some of the powerful Buffy vampires had a bit of that going on – I’m talking about when they were being ugly vampires, not normal and human looking.

I just like stuff to not be about sex a lot… vampires are a big offender in this and it totally turns me off.

PS: who the hell doesn’t like garlic anyway? Garlic is AMAZING.

    • Oh, and with regards to your actual post, I DO like Stephen King so you never know. Can’t be as bad as that horrible vampire comic I read with that girl in it. What’s her name… she had dark wavy hair. The first volume was terrible anyway. Had no depth whatsoever.

  2. ha, was that that comic we looked for online for ages?

I wanted to be a vampire when I was, like, seven. I am going to assume that my attraction to the undead was in no way sexually driven. But yes, sexy vampires are pretty boring, bad ass vampires are a lot more fun 🙂
